Nautical Kingdom: African Port

The centerpiece of the park, as well as its westernmost area, is a recreation of an East African village. Here, guests can go wild as they are immersed in this unique region of the world.

Coming in from Fortress Explorations or the Marine Life Institute, guests come across the towering Mount Kilimanjaro. Here is where they will find the loading station for Kilimanjaro Quest, a thrilling roller coaster that goes forwards and backwards through the volcano on a mine train. It exits into the Victoria Trading Company gift shop. Also nearby is the African Port station for the Nautical Kingdom Steamer Line, which departs to European Harbor.

Crossing one of two bridges, guests are then transported to an African Village, inspired by Kenya and Tanzania. African Drummers play around here. Also around here, they can watch the Festival of the Lion King at the theater. They can find themed merchandise at Hakuna Matata or eat at the Harambe Food Court. Savannah Smoothies also offers soft smoothies to guests. Towards the border with Discovery Bay are Boabab Village Market and the Jambo Inn Restaurant. Going through an alley will take guests to the loading station of Hatari River Rapids, a thrilling water ride where guests must escape from the guardian spirits within a mountain. The ride exits into River Store.

When developing the centerpiece of the park, I wanted something big and adventurous, so I came up with a volcano. However, I wanted a real-life volcano that people knew about, not a made-up one, so I decided to use Kilimanjaro. With me struggling to find a way to make The Lion King fit somewhere, this actually worked out great, because I built a whole African area around it.

  1. Great area! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, you are including the best of everything in these parks, and I really like it! It’s all the familiar Disney feel but not copycats of other parks. It feels very new and exciting!
