Dream Kingdom: Frontierland

In the northern part of the Rivers of America is a tribute to American history and culture. Here, guests can travel through rustic areas, from the great outdoors to the Wild West, and even go down to New Orleans. With several attractions, old and new, this area is a truly unforgettable one.

When coming in from the hub, guests are almost instantly immersed in 1920's New Orleans. Here, they can find Crescent City Cafe and French Quarter Store on their right. On the left is Mardi Gras Gifts, and the section's headliner restaurant, Tiana's Palace, inspired by the one seen in The Princess and the Frog. Towards the water is where guests can find the Frontierland Riverboat Landing, where they can board a steamboat and sail around the Rivers of America. Going further in, guests enter a rustic bayou area, where they can find the loading station for Tiana's Bayou Adventure. This modified version of the ride has its main show building on an island in the center of the Rivers of America, while the load area and final scenes are on the bank of the river. The ride exits into Bayou Crossing, a gift shop.

Going past the bayou near an entry into Adventureland, guests come into a forest area. Here, they can explore the Riverside Nature Trails on the left. On the right is the Davy Crockett Inn. Also here is the Country Bear Musical Revue, a new version of the Country Bear Jamboree with updated songs, a splash of humor, and more timely audio-animatronics. Nearby this is the Trading Post gift shop.

The last section of Frontierland is an Old West region set in the fictional ghost town of Thunder Springs. On the left is where guests will find the Thunder Springs Shootin' Gallery. On the right is where guests will find town buildings such as La Rancha Cibola, Thunder Springs Mercantile, and of course, The Silver Horseshoe. On the bank of the river is where Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is located, a new take on the classic ride. It exits into the gift shop Prospector Prizes. In the back of the area is the Frontierland Station for the Disneytopia Railroad, where trains will leave to go to Fantasyland. Behind the station is a large mesa, where guests ride the Western River Expedition. This advanced boat ride, complete with boats that spin, move backwards, and drop, is the realization of an unbuilt concept for Walt Disney World, even though it has been reimagined with legends of the American Southwest such as the Thunderbird and the Lost City of Cibola.

This was an interesting area to make. I specifically enjoyed putting in Western River Expedition with the technology developed for Shanghai's Pirates of the Caribbean ride. Although Disney cut the WRE from the Magic Kingdom (because they felt like they couldn't have it with Pirates, although I beg to differ), I feel like it could be a different enough ride to stand out. Plus, my additional touches of the Thunderbird (which also ties into Thunder Springs' backstory) and Cibola add an interesting new light to it. As for the central attraction, Tiana's Bayou Adventure, when developing how that would be, I mainly guessed using the information already known about it. I know I've been against it for a while, but I admit that this new ride has been easier to accept once they actually started working on it. Although I'll miss Splash Mountain, I'm willing to give this a try.....and I think my idea of making it on an island adds more thrills to it, just like Big Thunder Mountain in Disneyland Paris.

  1. I’m so glad you’ll give Tiana’s Bayou Adventure a try! I’m excited about that. I love that you can include Mardi Gras in that area and can do a lot of cool things with that.
